This upcoming September at the 63rd IDA Annual Conference & Tradeshow, the Downtown Vancouver BIA will be presented with an Award of Excellence within the public space category for our More Awesome Laneway project. Excellence awards recognize high achievement in the areas of innovation, representation and sustainability.
Our first More Awesome Now laneway, Alley Oop, was developed in response to results from our Re-Imagine Downtown Vancouver public visioning process. More than 11,000 Vancouverites chimed in and told us they wanted downtown Vancouver to be home to a connected series of “activated alleyways” that are welcoming spaces with lots of “hidden gems” to discover, including galleries, restaurants, and “art walls” where graffiti and visual storytelling are welcomed.
So, we set out to become heroes through the creation of the most awesome, new and innovative laneway in downtown Vancouver.
The concept for Alley Oop was born, and with the help of partners HCMA Architecture + Design and the City of Vancouver, the idea was made real. Thank you to the public and private partners who helped us make our More Awesome Now laneway project a reality. And thank you to IDA for recognizing everybody involved through this Award of Excellence.
