The PuSh International Performing Arts Festival is Vancouver's mid-winter festival featuring acclaimed local, national and international artists. The PuSh Festival presents ground-breaking work in the live performing arts: theatre, dance, music and multimedia performance.
The 12th annual PuSh Festival takes place January 19 to February 7, 2016 at various venues across Vancouver—and there’s a lot on offer over the three weeks. This year’s Festival includes works by artists and companies from Australia, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Lebanon, and the United States.
The 2016 Festival features over 150 performances and events over 20 days, including 18 Main Stage shows, three weeks of performances at Club PuSh in its new home at The Fox Cabaret, industry networking events at the PuSh Assembly, free movies in the PuSh Film Series, professional workshops, and many artist talks and other ancillary events.
Here are just a few highlight shows of the 2016 PuSh Festival that are taking place downtown:
By Ranters Theatre (Australia)
January 20–23 | The Orpheum Annex
Inspired by real-life encounters, this bespoke work is a collection of anecdotes, unashamed disclosures and intimate life stories shared by strangers in the street.
By The Holy Body Tattoo & Godspeed You! Black Emperor (Canada)
January 28 | Queen Elizabeth Theatre
Homegrown dance icons make their triumphant return to the stage with their signature rock and roll choreography, accompanied live by the post-rock giants Godspeed You! Black Emperor. An occasion so rare it comes around once a decade.
By Association Immeìdiat (France)
February 4–6 | Vancouver Playhouse
French circus comes to town with this highly inventive physical comedy. It’s the visual anarchy of the Marx Brothers, delivered with an accent. Prepare to be astonished.
