The north plaza of the Vancouver Art Gallery, a rental space for festivals, events and protests, will undergo long overdue maintenance now through Fall 2015.
Below the plaza is the Gallery’s art collection. When it rains, the collection is at risk, so the waterproof membrane will be replaced. Repairs to the main stairs and trees will also be done.
The surface will be temporarily restored until it is more fully redeveloped in 2016-2017. This redevelopment is expected to include feature landscaping, tree replacement and more efficient space for festival & event set-up.
The DVBIA has been working with the City in advocating for major changes to the site, including a focus on
13 key design principles.
