It’s just five months till organics are banned in city landfills.
Starting January 1, 2015, a Metro Vancouver ban on disposing food scraps and other compostable materials in landfills and incinerators will come into effect across the region. This means not just households, but commercial businesses must comply.
The ban will mean that food scraps, such as raw foods, cooked foods, plate scrapings, leftovers, packaged food, meat, bones etc. will no longer be permitted in regular garbage. All businesses are encouraged to learn more about the upcoming ban and to work with a solid waste service provider to set up a food scraps collection program now, to ensure compliance with the upcoming ban.
