Jul 11, 2016

The West Hastings corridor has long been an important one in Vancouver. With a diverse history of "temple" banks and private clubs, a once thriving fashion district and remarkable architecture ranging from the early 1900s to the Modern movement in the 1960s and 70s, West Hastings Street offers intriguing stories at every corner.

Vancouver Heritage Foundation has partnered with the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association to offer a series of free lunch time walking tours with guide John Atkin, starting in July. All tours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will be at Lot 19, at the foot of Hornby St. at West Hastings St., starting at 12pm each tour day.

Discover the fascinating history of one of Vancouver's oldest corridors with popular tour guide and civic historian, John Atkin. West Hastings Street offers a range of intriguing stories from elitism and the start of Vancouver's financial centre to an evolving fashion industry tied to changes in the Downtown Eastside. It also ripe with wonderful examples of diverse architecture, from the early 1900s to the Modern era of the 1960s and 70s.
