80,000 Attend NYE Vancouver

Jan 04, 2016

Last week, eighty thousand onlookers rang in 2016 with midnight fireworks and a free waterfront festival at Canada Place.

The event, hosted by the Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society, was the first free community New Year’s Eve celebration downtown in more than ten years. The festivities included live music from local bands The Matinee, We Are The City, Dear Rouge, Current Swell, and this year’s Peak Performance Project winner, Bed of Stars.

Two New Year’s countdowns took place: one at 9 pm for families, and one at midnight with waterfront fireworks.

“Bringing this level of New Year’s Eve event back to Vancouver, we knew people would be excited, but the turnout and support we received from all levels of the community was truly overwhelming,” said Charles Gauthier, Downtown Vancouver BIA President and CEO and Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society President.
